Healthy meals don’t have to take more than 30 minutes. The secret to a tasty meal in less than 30 minutes begins with ingredients that require less time to cook, bake, broil or saut. Busy cooks can plan an entire week’s worth of home cooked meals that are nutritious and delicious.
Know Your Ingredients
Choose meats, poultry and vegetables that can will cook in 30 minutes or less. For example, prepare a surf and turf in 30 minutes or less depending on the size of the steaks and efficiency of the broiling unit. Sprinkle steaks with a dash of lemon pepper or brush with barbecue sauce and broil. Skewer sea scallops or shrimp sprinkled with lime juice and garlic powder. Add this to the broiler the last 5 minutes before steaks are done. Serve with fresh salad. For another example, pound chicken cutlets to 1/4 inch thickness and dredge in flour. Melt butter and crushed garlic in a saut pan and add chicken and white wine. Serve over quick rice.
